HISTORY OF GELENCSER

 

In 1956, Stephane Avril, Patrick Gelencser’s grandfather opened a pastry shop in Chantonnay. Jacqueline Avril met Laszlo Gelencser in Switzerland.


In 1972, after 12 years in Switzerland, the second generation took up the torch and brought their “chocolated” know-how in Chantonnay. Then, Patrick Gelencser who was interested in the job, started working as a pastry chef.

 

In 1997, in les Sables d’Olonnes, the Gelencser family opened their third shop for the pleasure of the inhabitants. This boutique moved in 2010 and expanded in 2012, Boulevard de Castelnau, diversifying its activity. In addition to pastry and chocolate, Gelencser now also sells coffee and tea.

 

In 2002, the production laboratory moved from Chantonnay to La Roche sur Yon. The Gelencser company built its 850-square-meter new lab, Espace Bell. A fourth boutique, next to the production lab, was opened.

 

In 2006, the boutique changed its address. It settled in the main commercial galery of the town.

 

In 2011, the Gelencser company continued its development in Vendée. A fifth boutique opened in Challans, place du Champ de Foire.

 

In 2014, Patrick Gelencser wanted to transmit his passion and his home-made knowledge.

 

His desire : to make people discover chocolate in all its states with the opening of the first museum of the chocolate in Vendée.
